Smile – The Cooling Fan of Peace and Happiness

 

You joyfully embrace in the pollen of my heart.

Your white with luster of red radiant smile drifts.

The rays of your smile make our speech glorious and intoxicated.

Please show your smile to me.

 

In an elegant teaching of Sakya lama,

He has not explained the smile to be very important.

Master of these days, who give elegant teachings,

Praise that a smile of a face is very important.

 

The supreme teacher, the son of king Suddhodan,

Has always filled his golden face with a smile.

The heritage deity, the Lotus-Holder too,

Is rich with a smiling face at all times.

 

Moreover, Guru Padma Jungne

Becomes wrathful by purpose and yet,

Cannot abandon the expression of a peaceful smile,

Look at his neither peaceful nor wrathful manifestation.

 

Even His Holiness the Dalai Lama,

Travels around the world by flaunting a smiling face.

Is there anyone who hasn’t got attracted

To his smiling face?

 

Very thin and emaciated, dressed in white cotton etc,

Though not different from an ordinary person,

What the man known as Gandhi,

Has uncommon is his smile.

 

Therefore, I saw the value of the important secret,

Hidden in a smiling face.

In order to develop the training of knowledge,

I am going to talk about the preciousness of smile.

 

Always having a wrathful grimace,

And having stayed with pressing the lower lip,

Gives an unpleasant feeling in other’s mind,

And completely spoils the beauty of one’s face.

 

That person who possesses a smile at all times,

Will always be happy.

One’s harmonization of elements will be balanced

And one will be friendly with others forever.

 

One will be pleased when one sees a smiling person,

And one’s enthusiasm will increase for a long time if one befriends with a smiling person.

The person who possesses the glory of happiness of happiness

Is with a joyful smile.

 

The one who always possesses a smile,

Will remain healthy, live long and wealth will increase.

One self and others will be happy and delighted

And thoughts will be in accord and hopes will be fulfilled.

 

Whether one lives in a blissful garden,

Or drowns in an unpleasant ocean,

The smile is always there

In the face of the sublime being.

 

Showing a smile when one is happy,

Is a common thing for animals.

Smiling even though one faces difficulties,

Is the nature of a sublime being.

 

One who is endowed with inner happiness,

Possesses a spontaneous smile without fabrication.

A single smile can lead a lot of people,

Into the glory of peace and happiness.

 

Expenditure of money isn’t needed,

Tiredness of body isn’t needed.

Then why not accompany this smile

Which generates joy in others?

 

Usually, the place where there is a crowd of people,

With joyful smiles visible,

Indicates that it is a dwelling place of peace and happiness

And those people are living in peace and harmony.

 

If others show a smile to you

You acquire happiness in your mind.

Likewise, if you show a smile to others

Definitely, it will generate happiness in their minds.

 

Even if others don’t smile at you

You should smile at them.

By the nature of interdependent phenomena

One day you will swiftly receive a smile back.

 

You smile at others and others smile at you,

From an environment of smiling each other,

A sprout of compassionate mind, peace and happiness grows,

And you will experience a fruition of relaxed and peaceful mind.

 

At the moment when you meet somebody

That person smiles at you spontaneously.

You should also smile

At the moment when you meet that person.

 

Even though you respect the person with a smile,

That person shows an arrogant attitude to you.

This is the bad behavior of mean people.

You shouldn’t even get the smell of it.

 

Even if you look with an angry glance to the person

The person shows a smiling face back to you.

Wherever such a person stays,

The place will gradually be pervaded by smile.

 

Although the hot waves of ocean of suffering,

Move  turbulently inside you,

From outer appearance, show all

A very beautiful smiling face.

 

Even though your mind becomes totally arrogant ,

With many good things,

Such as caste, youth, knowledge and so on,

Show all a joyful smiling face.

 

Though you have seen impermanent birth, old age, sickness, death and so on,

As the nature of samsara,

And have cultivated renunciation from the depth,

Show all a joyful smiling face.

 

Welcome others with a joyful smiling face.

Accompany others with a joyful smiling face.

Have a good conversation with a joyful smiling face.

Look at others with a joyful smiling face.

 

Welcome the morning dawn with a smile.

Spend the day with a smile.

Sleep at night too with a smile.

Wake up from the morning bed with a smile.

 

Respect grateful parents, teachers and so on,

With an unfabricated natural smile.

Care loving brothers and sisters, friends and so on,

With an unfabricated natural smile.

 

Flaunt everyone a joyful smiling face,

With thirty two white teeth in a row.

In every situation and time

Practice to get smile in face.

 

If smile is classified, there are many.

Tight smile, loose smile and free smile,

Artificial smile, scornful smile and unfabricated smile,

Side smile, stretched smile and a little smile.

 

Happy smile, loving smile, and sad smile,

Attached smile, faithful smile, desirous smile and so on

Are the classification of smile.

Know it with fine differentiation.

 

Furthermore, eye smile, cheek smile,

Full face smile and

Single lip smile and so on

Are the wonderful art of smile.

 

Also within young and old age

Child smile, young smile, adult smile,

Old man smile and old woman smile,

Each has its own elegance.

 

From children smile, delight radiates.

From young smile, attachment radiates.

From adult smile, courage radiates.

And from the old age smile, love radiates.

 

A smile of the intellectual and the stupid,

A smile of the sublime one and the ordinary,

A smile of the leader and the subject,

A smile of the rich and the poor,

 

A smile of the male friend and the female friend,

A smile of the warrior and the coward,

Though, they are similar in smile,

But the meanings are different as far as the sky and the earth.

 

These so forth, each of the classifications of the smiling face

Have their own meanings,

Their own arts and their own feelings.

If one knew all these in respective distinction,

 

Though one does not have clairvoyance but one can know the mind of others,

Though one does not have power and wealth, but one can attract the mind of others,

Though one does not have ornaments but one can be beautiful to all,

Therefore, a smile is priceless.

 

Even if one shows a way to a guest,

Show it with a beautiful smile.

Even if one hands over five rupee to a beggar,

Learn to hand over with a loving smile.

 

Whoever person you meet

Be higher or lower, strong or weak, poor or rich and so on,

Showing same peaceful and smooth smile,

Is the manner of sublime ones.

 

The smiles of the sublime ones are

Like a sun, which is equal to all.

The smiles of the ordinary ones are

Like a butter lamp, which is only for its surrounding.

 

The presidents of the United States-

Clinton, Bush and Obama,

If one examines their smiles perfectly,

They manifest particular dissimilarities, look at these.

 

From the beginning one came crying.

Most of ones life is spent by crying.

Even in the last moment of our life, if it ends with crying

It’s a great loss.

 

From the beginning,

Though one came in this world crying,

At the end, when one leaves,

I wonder, if one gets to leave with a smile.

 

When you are alive, others should live smilingly

In your tears.

When you die, you should leave smilingly

In the tears of others.

 

Whoever possesses smile always,

That person possesses everything.

Whoever is without smile,

That person possesses nothing.

 

In short, the one who wishes for a healthy body

And wishes being happy oneself and others,

Why don’t the one train in smile, free of cost,

Which is effortless and has a great value?
